Air conditioning installation in West Mersea
An island job. We book the survey and the install around the tide, because the road goes under water and the van does not float.
West Mersea is the most exposed place we work and the only one where the calendar matters as much as the quote. Both of those are worth understanding before you take prices from anybody.
The Strood
Mersea Island is reached by one causeway, and it floods. When the tide runs over about 4.5 metres the road goes under, typically for around half an hour either side of high water, and on a spring tide or with the wind behind it that stretches to an hour and a half each way. Cars get abandoned on it most years.
For an installation that matters more than it sounds. A full day's work on the island means getting a van, two people and a pallet of equipment on before the tide and off after it, and it means the surveyor turning up at a time that actually works. We check the tide tables when we book rather than when we set off. If an installer quotes you for Mersea without mentioning the Strood, ask them when they are planning to arrive.
The most exposed housing on the estuary
An island in the Blackwater has no sheltered side. Salt-laden air reaches every elevation of every property here, and the standard aluminium condenser coil is simply the wrong specification for it. We fit coated coils as standard on Mersea, and we think about siting harder than we would two miles inland — out of the prevailing spray, behind whatever shelter the plot offers.
Beach huts, chalets and second homes
A lot of Mersea property is used seasonally, and a lot of it is bungalows and low-built waterside housing, which makes for short pipe runs and genuinely quick installations. If the house is let rather than lived in, say so at survey — it changes the controls we recommend, not the system.
Villages and areas nearby
We also cover East Mersea, Peldon, Abberton, Layer-de-la-Haye, Tiptree, Tollesbury and the villages around the Blackwater. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call and ask — the answer is usually yes.
What it costs
Our pricing is published rather than quoted on the doorstep, so you can see roughly where you stand before anyone visits. See one, two and three room prices.
