Air conditioning installation in Wivenhoe
A tidal river town of two halves: a tightly packed historic waterfront, and everything built since.
Wivenhoe splits neatly for our purposes. There is the old town down by the quay — narrow lanes, cottages built wall to wall, nearly all of it inside a conservation area. And there is everything up the hill and out towards the university, which is ordinary post-war and modern housing with space to work in.
The old town
Down by the water, the constraint is simply that there is nowhere obvious to put anything. Cottages on East Street, the Quay and the lanes behind have no side access, shared or near-shared walls, and frontages that face directly onto a public street inside a conservation area. The outdoor unit goes to the rear or into a courtyard, the pipe route is planned rather than assumed, and where a cottage is listed we sort out consent before ordering equipment.
It is detailed work, but it is the kind of work that makes the difference between a unit that disappears into a historic street and one that ruins it.
Up the hill
The newer half of Wivenhoe is the opposite: standard cavity construction, side access, a sensible place for an outdoor unit, and a job that is usually done in a day. If you are in a modern house here, your installation is at the easy end of our range and should be priced that way.
River air
The Colne is tidal at Wivenhoe and the air carries salt, though far less than it does at Brightlingsea or out on Mersea. On riverside properties we still specify a coated condenser coil; further up the hill it matters less. A surveyor who recommends the same hardware for both is not paying attention.
Villages and areas nearby
We also cover Rowhedge, Alresford, Elmstead Market, Fingringhoe, Greenstead and the villages between Wivenhoe and Colchester. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call and ask — the answer is usually yes.
What it costs
Our pricing is published rather than quoted on the doorstep, so you can see roughly where you stand before anyone visits. See one, two and three room prices.
