Air conditioning installation in Brightlingsea
A working waterfront town, open to the Colne on two sides, with Victorian terraces that were never built with pipework in mind.
Brightlingsea is the only Essex member of the Cinque Ports, a limb of Sandwich, and it has the housing stock of a town that spent three centuries working on the water: tight Victorian terraces built for the oyster and shipbuilding trade, a scatter of larger villas, post-war estates behind, and newer waterside housing along the creek.
Terraces without side access
The terraced streets off the High Street and down towards the Hard share the same constraint: no side passage, neighbours on both sides, and a small yard at the back. The outdoor unit goes to the rear, and the two things that matter are the pipe route and the noise at the boundary. A properly sited modern unit is quieter than a fridge at a few metres, but on a terrace the position still wants thinking about rather than guessing.
Fully exposed, on two sides
The town sits on a spit with Brightlingsea Creek on one side and the Colne estuary on the other, and the prevailing wind comes off the water across both. There is no sheltered side of Brightlingsea in the way there is in an inland town. A coated condenser coil is not an upsell here, it is the specification — and where a unit can be tucked behind a building rather than on the most convenient wall, that choice buys years.
Boats, sheds and second homes
A good deal of property here is used seasonally or let, and a fair amount of the heating demand is about making a cold waterside house usable in March rather than cooling it in August. A reversible system does both, and the heating half is the half most people end up valuing.
